Best of Friends in Paradise

Somehow after 17 years, Greg finally got me fishing. My first time actually wasn't too bad. There certainly is a technique to it - one I won't perfect any time soon. It was kind-of nice though going off just the two of us and having my own private lesson. I'm glad Kris caught a few pics of us. The kids had a great time playing. It was a fun day in Paradise and hopefully we'll be going back!

Weekly Ward Mutual

If only. How they swung this I have no idea. Greg, Colby, Roger, and the men somehow persuaded Bishop Best into letting them take the Priests to California to hit some temples...oh yeah, and they went scuba-diving. Months of preparation, lots of money invested, and the group was ready. Some of the awesome moms (like myself) made dinners for them to eat (a feast for 20+) and all the boys had the pleasure of sleeping in the RS room at the church. Oh fun! They had a great time though. Nobody was hurt, and they all came home happy as experienced divers.

Boating with the Allens

Dakota and I went boating yesterday with Sara, Colby, and the kids. It was such a great time. We only had a couple of hours to kill, but we used the time wisely! We swam in the lake and then got pulled on the tube.

Sara cracked me up. Colby kept railing her for not keeping a consistent speed while he and Brooklin were on the tube. She thought she was. It fluctuated a little bit - from around 8.4 to 9.2. We finally figured out what the problem was. She wasn't watching the Speedometer. She was watching the depth-gauge. No wonder!

It was great fun. Dakota had a blast. He loved jumping off the end of the boat into the water. Of course Mommy had to save him a couple of times. He had a hard time swimming with his life jacket on. I'm glad we enforced it though. I guess during the time we were out there another little boy wasn't so lucky. He was swimming without his life jacket, went under the water, and then never surfaced. Safety first. That's what's most important. I'm glad all our kids were safe and had a great time!!

Freedom Run 10k

Yesterday LuAnn and I ran in the Freedom Run 10k in Provo. It was my first "official" 10k (6.2 miles). I've run 6 miles several times before, so I just had to tell myself I was out for one of my normal runs. It felt amazing. So far it's probably one of my very favorite runs. It started early (7 a.m.), so it was still cool. It was mostly in the shade, and it followed the parade route. There were tons of people along the route anxiously awaiting the parade, and they cheered us all on.

We fell around the middle of the pack. The top finishers came in under 40 minutes. Crazy. We came in just over 58 minutes.

My Race Results:

Bib: 4384
Age Division: 35-39
Chip Time: 58.17
Clock Time: 59.28
Overall Placed: 624 (out of around
1500 10k runners)
Overall Placed in Age Division: 44
Total Pace: 5.50/k

I will definitely do this run again. I'm hoping by next year I'll knock off a few minutes. If 623 other people can do it, so can I!

A Fun 4th of July

The 4th of July was busy at our house! We had friends over for dinner - each of us bringing something. Greg grilled on the BBQ. Dakota helped me with the Fruit Pizza. The Gentas brought donuts and fruit; the Browns brought peanut butter bars and more fruit, the Allens offered S'mores (and a lot more), and Fruit Pizza. We had more sweets than we knew what to do with.

The firework display took place in front of Sara's. She'd laid out several blankets for the families, and then it was up to the men to give us a good show. That they did. It was low-key and fun!
